About
Michele Zimmerman is a singer-songwriter, violinist, multi-instrumentalist, and improvisor based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. With songwriting influences like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Elliott Smith, Michele crafts songs that are singular, intricate, and brimming with sensory detail. Her 2026 debut album, Seven Songs, was recorded in just a few hours, with a single microphone and a set of used cassette tapes. Originally intended as a collection of demos for personal use, it eventually took shape as a larger project, with the sonic qualities of the tapes themselves, and the lonely spontaneity of the one-take performances lending a strange yet affecting setting for Michele’s reflective, lyric-driven songwriting. As a violinist, Michele has performed in folk ensembles, jazz big bands, symphony orchestras, and more. She recently recorded violin for Aviana Gedler’s 2026 EP Memory Loss, and for Nadav Brenner’s 2025 album From Afar, lending her unique skills as both an improvisor and a classical musician on each project.Michele holds a BMus in classical violin performance from UNC School of the Arts, and an MMus in contemporary musical arts from New England Conservatory.
